TERRESTRIAL PLANTS

Echinacea Purpurea – Cone Flower

There are several verity of Echinacea also known as coneflower. Echinacea, a North American genus in the Daisy family, produces big, bright flowers from late June until frost. Plants thrive in average soils, withstand hot, dry conditions, and shrug off cold. Blooms last well cut or dried, and the seeds in the large cone at the heart of the flower head provide nourishment for birds.

Light Needs: Full Sun to Partial Shade

Brilliantly colored flowers with deep green leaves. Ideal for cut flowers. Plant in a sunny spot. Grow them in large groupings for a beautiful, eye-catching statement in your garden. Crocosmia love rich, well-drained soil and once established in the garden, they will multiply rapidly. Hardy in zones 5-8; elsewhere mulch heavily for winter.

‘Forever Purple’ is a knockout with ultra-purple glossy leaves with fluted edges and great vigor. Very short spikes of purple-pink flowers in summer and four seasons of purple.

Honeysuckle – Purple

Vigorous twining stems covered in dark green foliage with purple-tinted undersides and exotic, fragrant, purple-red and white bi-colored flowers that age to a creamy yellow. An excellent solution for a fast-growing screen on a fence or arbor. Left unsupported, it will create a dense, blanketing groundcover. Deciduous.

Light Needs: Partial to full sun
Water Needs: Water regularly – weekly, or more often in extreme heat.

Ophiopogon Planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ – Black Mondo Grass

Stunning contrast for the front of the border! Dense, purplish-black, grass like foliage is exceptional. Produces dark lavender flowers and purple fall berries, adding interest. Use in mass as an edging or tuck into mixed containers.

Light Needs: Full sun to partial shade

Water Needs: Moist, well-drained soil

AQUATIC PLANTS

Lobelia-cardinalis-Queen-Victoria

Lobelia Cardinalis ‘Queen Victoria’

Queen Victoria has bright crimson-red flowers that are highly attractive to hummingbirds, and lovely burgundy foliage. Goldfinches are said to enjoy the seeds produced after flowering. Hopefully they’ll leave some so the plant can self-seed itself, giving you more plants. Best when grown in Prefers Wet Soil in sun to partial shade. Perennial lobelias benefit from being divided every year or two. This plant flowers later in the summer.

Light Needs: Full Shade to Partial Sun

Grow your water lily in a tub or a pond. They grow from tubers planted in pots beneath the water and send up stems with rounded leaves and star-shaped blossoms that float on the surface. Hardy lilies are dependable and easy to plant — a good choice for the beginner. Daytime bloomers, they blossom in the morning and close after sunset, lasting three or four days before sinking beneath the surface.

Light Needs: Full to Partial Sun

Water Needs: Can live in up to three feet of water.

Tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) is a non-native milkweed that has exploded in popularity in response to the demand for milkweed. It is simple to propagate. The plant is also attractive, both to humans and monarchs, providing flowers and lush green foliage throughout the growing season. 🦋

Light Needs: Sun to part shade

Pontederia Dilatata ‘Royal Pickerel’

Tall, upright plant that makes a beautiful addition to the pond or water garden. Produces intense blue flower spikes that continue all summer long. Mature size of 3 to 6 feet. Beautiful addition to the pond or water garden.

Light Needs: Full Sun

Water Needs: Marginal, Prefers Wet Soil

Mimulus Guttatus – ‘Yellow Monkey Flower’

Monkey flower is a PERENNIAL growing to (2ft) It is hardy to zone 6. It flowers from Jul to September. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and it can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist or wet soil and can grow in water.

Dichromena Colorata ‘Star Grass’

An evergreen sedge and native to America. The while star-shaped flowers sit atop of green needle-like stems. Each stem has its own “shooting star”
