A Serene Pondless Water Feature in Snohomish

We recently completed this custom pondless water feature for a customer in Snohomish, creating a beautiful focal point that brings the sights and sounds of moving water into the landscape.

The centerpiece is a 25-foot-long stream and waterfall, designed to create a natural, flowing look as the water travels down toward a 7′ x 9′ underground reservoir. Because the feature is pondless, the water disappears into the reservoir at the bottom, providing the soothing look and sound of a waterfall without an open pond.

To make the feature just as enjoyable after sunset, we incorporated strategically placed spotlights that illuminate the flowing water and give the waterfall a warm, glowing presence at night.

From start to finish, this project was completed in just three days, transforming the space into a relaxing water feature that can be enjoyed throughout the day—and well into the evening.

Another custom water feature, designed to complement the landscape and bring a little more beauty and tranquility to the outdoors.

Ready for your own backyard transformation? Dive in and let’s talk!

A Striking Basalt Bubbler Feature in Lake Stevens

We recently helped a Lake Stevens customer add a unique water feature to a newly created raised garden bed.

The centerpiece is an extra-tall, three-column basalt bubbler water feature with beautifully polished tops. The customer selected the feature from our nursery and asked our team to deliver and professionally install it at his home. To complete the look, he also chose polished black pebbles to surround the basin, creating a clean, modern contrast with the natural basalt.

The plumbing kit includes LED lighting inside each basalt column, adding a special touch after dark. When illuminated, the polished tops glow with a warm, flickering effect reminiscent of a flame, transforming the water feature into an eye-catching evening focal point.

The feature was installed in a newly constructed raised bed, with plans for the customer to add soil and surrounding plants later. Once the landscaping is complete, the basalt bubblers will be beautifully integrated into the garden, combining the soothing sound of water with natural stone and lush plantings.

A simple combination of basalt, water, light, and thoughtful landscaping can create a feature that stands out both day and night.

Dreaming of a backyard upgrade? You know who to call.

Grace Smokebush

Cotinus × ‘Grace’, commonly known as Grace Smoke Bush, is a showstopping shrub that brings color, texture, and movement to the garden throughout the growing season.

With its painterly foliage and airy, cloud-like blooms, this large shrub—or small tree—makes a beautiful statement in the landscape.

Grace Smoke Bush is especially prized for its ever-changing foliage. In spring, new leaves emerge in rich wine-red tones, gradually deepening to plum-red and purple as summer arrives. Then, as autumn settles in, the foliage puts on one final spectacular display, shifting into brilliant shades of orange, red, and gold.

Grace Smoke Bush can reach approximately 12 to 15 feet tall and wide, developing an open, artistic branching form that adds structure and interest to the landscape.

For the richest foliage color, plant it in full sun. It prefers well-drained soil but is remarkably adaptable, growing happily in average, rocky, or less fertile soils. Keep it consistently watered during its first growing season while it establishes a strong root system. Once established, it becomes quite drought-tolerant.

This is also a relatively low-maintenance plant. If desired, it can be pruned back heavily in spring every few years to encourage vigorous new growth and larger leaves.

Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, Grace Smoke Bush is a wonderful choice for gardeners looking for a plant that offers something beautiful in every season.

Liriope Muscari 'Big Blue'

Liriope Muscari ‘Big Blue’, also known as Lily Turf, packs a punch with its lush, dark green leaves and eye-catching lilac-purple flowers that pop up in late summer. Not just a pretty face, this perennial also produces blooms that give away into shiny black berries until the winter.

Hardy, compact, and evergreen, this tuberous perennial thrives in dry shade and can easily substitute lawn grass.

Looking for garden drama? Plant it in big groups or let it flow like a river through your garden beds. It’s a game-changer for edges along paths or pools, and it fills under-tree spaces like a dream.

Here are the quick facts:

  • Grows 12-18 inches tall and wide.
  • Loves light, acidic, moist but well-drained soils.
  • Sun lover? Yes, but also partial to full shade friendly.
  • It’s tough: deer and rabbit resistant, plus handles heat, humidity, and drought like a champ.

Leucothoe Fontanesiana 'Nana'

Looking for a robust, colorful addition to your garden this season?

Meet the Dog Hobble ‘Nana’, a versatile shrub that brings movement and color with its evergreen leaves – shifting from green to purple to red and blooming with white flowers in spring.

Key Details:

  • Plant Type: Evergreen shrub
  • Foliage: Green, purple, and red
  • Mature Size: 2-3 ft tall, 4-6 ft wide
  • Flowers: White blooms in the spring
  • Growing Conditions: Thrives in acidic, rich, and well-drained soil; best in sun to shade; Zones 5a-10b

‘Nana’ stands out with its low-growing, compact form and glossy, lance-shaped leaves. In autumn and winter, it transforms into striking red or bronze-purple hues. Position it beneath taller shrubs, against north or east-facing foundations, or amidst rhododendrons in a woodland setting.
