Before & After for Pond in Duvall

A client from Duvall approached us with a clear vision: she wanted a goldfish pond in her backyard. Here’s a quick breakdown of the project details and our transformation process.

Specifications:

  • Size: The pond measures 9 feet by 12 feet with a depth of 2 feet.
  • Water Feature: Includes an 18-foot long waterfall and stream, adding movement and life to the pond.
  • Filtration and Cleaning: We installed a skimmer and an upflow filter to keep the water clear. A UV sterilizer was also added to control algae growth and maintain healthy water.
  • Lighting: The pond features both underwater and terrestrial low-voltage LED lighting, enhancing the pond’s beauty after dark and creating a stunning night-time landscape.

Project Timeline:

  • Completion Time: The entire installation was completed swiftly in just three days.

This installation not only met the client’s needs but also transformed her garden into a lively and serene space. The features selected ensure low maintenance and high enjoyment, perfect for relaxing by or hosting around.

Before & After: The Kirkland Garden Refresh

The Challenge: A classic 1960’s home in Kirkland with a garden that time forgot. Imagine this: a walkway glued to the house leading straight past a giant picture window. Not exactly privacy-friendly, huh? The garden? Think “vintage” gone a bit too far with tired grass and shrubs that had seen better days.

Our Mission: Time to shake things up! The goal was clear – revamp the garden, ditch the peeping-tom path, and save the stars of the show: those chic poodle-clipped pines, a majestic Japanese Maple, and a charming Vine Maple.

The Solution: Enter Rick, our garden design guru. He whipped up a plan that gave the walkway a new lease on life, now steering clear of the house (and that too-revealing window). Plus, he introduced a stunning new tree along with a bunch of shrubs and perennials sure to be a hit with the local bee and bird crowd.

The Result: Just four days later and voilà! A refreshed garden that made our customer super happy. Privacy restored and a view improved with added wildlife bonuses.

Designer’s Pro Tip: Let’s talk walkways. They should be buddy-friendly (at least four feet wide), no dawdling necessary (choose pavers that fit snug together), and keep it straight-ish (slight curves are cool, but let’s not turn it into a maze). Make it easy for everyone to enjoy your beautiful garden without taking an unintended detour through the flower beds!

Ready to rethink your garden path? We’ve got you covered.

New Fish Alert

Meet the Chinese high fin banded shark (Myxocyprinus asiaticus) – not your average fish! With dramatic black bands and an unmissable tall dorsal fin, these freshwater beauties grow slowly but surely into impressive sizes perfect for big ponds or aquariums. Peaceful by nature, they’re fantastic algae eaters and thrive in cooler waters. 🌊 Limited stock alert – grab yours before they’re gone!

Mark your calendars! This Friday, August 22nd, we’re welcoming a fresh batch of fish out of quarantine. Prices range from $40 to the largest at $525 for our 16+ size fish. With this likely being our final shipment for the season, hurry over this weekend for the first pick!

Spotlight on Chagoi Koi

Why Chagoi Koi? These aren’t your everyday fish. Here are the straight facts about what sets Chagoi Koi apart:

  • Color: They show off a single, solid color from nose to tail – think shades of brown, tan, or olive. It’s consistency at its best.
  • Temperament: Friendly to the core. Chagoi Koi are often the ones to make the first move and don’t mind a bit of hand-feeding.
  • Size: Given the right conditions, these koi can grow beyond 36 inches. Big space, right diet, equals big fish.
  • Diet: They have appetites that match their size, which helps them bulk up fast and stay healthy.
  • Genetics: Thanks to being close kin to the common carp, Chagoi Koi have a growth advantage that’s hard to beat.
  • Personality: More than just fish, they’re like pond puppies eager to greet and hang out whenever you’re near.

Whether you’re upgrading your pond or starting fresh, considering adding a Chagoi Koi to your aquatic family. Swing by this weekend and see for yourself why they’re a catch worth considering.

Allium 'Millenium'

Attract butterflies and bees, not deer, with the Allium ‘Millenium’! This hardy perennial blooms mid to late summer with bright rosy, purple flowers that stay fresh for up to 4 weeks.

Easy to Care For:

  • Loves fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Sun lover but can handle some shade.
  • Drought tolerance once established.

Garden Use:

  • Perfect for beds, borders, and containers.
  • Plant in clusters for a stunning display.

Low Fuss:

  • Resistant to pests and diseases.
  • Minimal reseeding.

Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia)

Looking for a hardy perennial that lights up your garden year after year?

Check out the Red Hot Poker! This plant is perfect for zones 5-9 and requires some winter mulch in colder climates to stay robust.

🔸 Flowers: Orange spikes with red-tipped tubular blossoms, attracting hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies from summer to fall.

🔸 Blooming Season: Late spring to fall, reaching peak blooms from June to October. Flowers can last up to 18 days, with some varieties reblooming until frost if deadheaded.

🔸 Sun Requirements: Loves full sun and flourishes with at least six hours of direct sunlight, although it can handle a bit of shade in hotter areas.

Compact yet striking, Red Hot Pokers make a vibrant addition to any garden, especially smaller spaces.  Offered in a variety of colors Rick’s favorites are Mango Popsicle and Papaya Popsicle.

Sarracenia Carnivorous Pitcher Plant

Though thriving in wet, boggy areas, remember, Sarracenia are not your typical aquatic plants. They excel in wetlands but aren’t submerged water-dwellers like water lilies.

Key Needs:

  • Consistent moisture with a peat moss and perlite soil mix.
  • Mineral-free watering. Use rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis water.
  • At least six hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • They live off insects they trap, so no fertilizer needed.

Temperatures:

  • Comfortable between 55-95°F (13-35°C) during the growing season.
  • Up to 110°F (43°C) is fine if the soil stays moist.
  • Cooler fall and winter temps to trigger dormancy.

Dormancy:

  • Lasts 3-5 months with cooler temps and reduced watering.
  • Trim browning leaves in spring before new blooms.

Campanula Birch Hybrid

This hardy, low-growing perennial lights up your garden with its violet-blue bell-shaped flowers from early summer to fall.

Stands just 4-6 inches tall and spreads 8-12 inches wide.

Loves the sun or part shade, and it’s a champ in any soil that’s well-drained.

Bonus: it’s super easy to care for and keeps pests and deer at bay.

Perfect for rock gardens, edging, or popping out of container crevices. Get the flow going over walls for eye-catching beauty.

And garden friends love it too—bees and butterflies can’t resist its charm, making your garden a pollinator’s paradise.
