Cool Plants

DelphiniumDelphinium

Delphinium yield elegant and exquisite, colorful flower spikes that add a majestic touch to your garden. Taller varieties such as Giant Pacific Hybrid Delphiniums will require staking. They make exceptional cut flowers, will attract hummingbirds and come in several different beautiful colors!

  • Light Need: Full Sun to Partial Shade

Water HawthornWater Hawthorn

Water Hawthorn is known for its strange white flowers, spotted with black pollen and strong vanilla fragrance. Its oblong leaves will rest on the water surface, as this very bizarre plant prefers cooler waters, often blooming in the Spring and Fall, while going dormant in the Summer.

  • Light need: Full Sun to Part Shade

White RushWhite Rush

This plant forms clumps of tall extremely upright needle-like leaves with green and white vertical stripes – an elegant and airy accent for the edge of the pond. Moist soil or water up to 3″ deep.

Fairly compact in habit, an ideal height for sunny borders and growing in mixed containers. The large and fragrant blooms have a row of light-green petals surrounding a large central cone of deep green.

This variegated hosta has slightly twisted foliage with a white center and green margins. Perfect for edging the shade garden. Lavender blooms with white scapes throughout the summer. Herbaceous perennial.

Queen Victoria has bright crimson-red flowers that are highly attractive to hummingbirds, and lovely burgundy foliage. Goldfinches are said to enjoy the seeds produced after flowering. Hopefully they’ll leave some so the plant can self-seed itself, giving you more plants. Best when grown in Prefers Wet Soil in sun to partial shade. Perennial lobelias benefit from being divided every year or two. This plant flowers later in the summer.

WanvisaWanvisa Hardy Water Lily

Wanvisa is full of wonderful surprises. Blossoms are changeable from peach to deep pink with yellow flecking. Occasionally, flowers may be half and half solid yellow to their traditional pink. Wanvisa’s lilypads are reddish with green mottling.
